Men's soccer drops game at Longwood

FARMVILLE, Va.  – The UNC Asheville Men's Soccer team opened up Big South play on Saturday, falling at Longwood 6-1.
With the loss, Asheville sits at 1-6 on the season and 0-1 in conference play. Longwood improves to 2-4-1 and1-0 in Big South. Longwood tallied three goals in the first 12 minutes and a fourth before the half, tacking on two in the second to take the contest.

How it Happened
Longwood pressed early, scoring in the 9th minute when Markus Gronli took a pass from Josh Fordyce and converted. All the momentum remained in Longwood's favor, getting two goals from Luis Ortner in less than three minutes. In the 22nd, Myles Edmondson fired a shot on frame but Jacob Reimers picked up the save. The Lancers added a fourth in the 31st, taking the 4-0 lead into the break. Â
The Lancers added a fifth goal in the 53rd, but Asheville showed some fight late, creating a couple chances and getting on the scoreboard when rookie James broke free and notched his second collegiate goal. Longwood responded one more time, taking the game 6-1.
What's Next
Asheville doesn't have a mid-week game, with its next contest scheduled against Winthrop on Saturday (October 2).
