Men’s soccer opens up Big South play at Longwood Saturday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's soccer team will open up Big South play on Saturday, visiting Longwood for a 2:00 p.m. kickoff.
A Change of Plans
Asheville was set to host Furman this past Wednesday, but the game was postponed until October 27 due to the weather. The Bulldogs most recently took the field on September 15, hosting College of Charleston and falling by a score of 5-3. Asheville, who was without the services of Leon Musial, got goals from Conor Behan, Myles Edmondson and Colin Daughtry, while Grant Stidham had five saves.
Repeat Performance?
While the Bulldogs are 1-5 on the season, everything lies in front of them with the start of conference play. This past spring, . Asheville's three wins and one tie in conference matches last spring earned them a No. 4 seed in the Big South Championship – sending them to a Big South Semifinal appearance for the first time since 2008.
Scouting the Lancers
Longwood enters Saturday's match with a 1-4-1 overall record, topping VMI 1-0 in August. Most recently, the Lancers traveled to UNC Wilmington where they fell 3-0 on Saturday. As a team, the Lancers have just four goals on the season, with Markus Gronli scoring a pair. Jacob Reimers has seen the majority of action in net, totaling 15 saves. Longwood's shots on goal percentage for the season is .295, allowing 13 shots a game by their opponents.

Asheville has the slight edge in the series, going 7-6-1 all-time. When the team's met in the spring season opener, Conor Behan scored in his collegiate debut and The Lancers registered an own goal to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 win, The win by Asheville snapped a three-game winning streak by Longwood in the series.
