BOONE, N.C.
 – Senior Clara Wincheski broke the 5k program record for the second time this fall with a time of 17:36.06 to highlight the UNC Asheville cross country program's outing at Friday's Firetower Project Meet. Improvement was a trend for Asheville Friday as 16 of the 18 runners that competed set new personal-best times in their given races.

Wincheski's record-breaking outing was not the only standout performance from an Asheville runner this evening as India Appleton established a new personal-best 5k time of 17:48.87. Appleton's time on Friday ranks third all-time in program history.

"It was exciting to watch Clara break the school record again, just two weeks after the last time," Head Coach Adam Puett said. "It was also fun to watch India Appleton run within one second of the previous school record, which now makes her the fourth fastest individual in school history."

Ashley Tysiac (19:07.68), Alyx Evans (19:13.12), Leah Given (19:28.73), Ashleigh Patterson (19:34.97), Corey McVay (19:46.58), Amanda Orban (20:11.52) all registered new personal bests on Friday as well.

John Ciprich (26:32.55) led the men's team with a 13th-place finish. The remainder of the Bulldog runners that competed in the field topped or established a new personal 8k times that included Jax Ledford (27:08.1), Andrew Okon (27:06.58), Brock Newsome (27:34.90), Quinn Jacquez (27:37.65), Yates Hockaday (27:41.50), Alex Haines (27:57.67), Jackson Core (28:03.97), Michael Hoefler (28:18.83)
.

"Both our men and women's teams made improvements from the last time we raced in Boone," Puett added. "Nine out of the nine women we raced ran faster and six out of seven men we raced ran faster than last time. We have another two weeks before we compete in Louisville, KY, which is one of the top competitions in the country."

Overall, both the men's and women's programs placed fourth in the team standings with point totals of 96 and 117, respectively.

Asheville will return to action on October 2 at the Louisville Invitational.
