LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The UNC Asheville cross country teams logged several standout performances at the Live in Lou Cross Country Classic in Louisville Saturday morning.
The Bulldog men's program had an especially good day. For the third straight race, John Ciprich led the way for Asheville with a time of 24:50.6. Not far behind Ciprich was Adam Hessler, who clocked in at 24:51.9. Ciprich's and Hessler's times, which rank second and third all-time in program history for an 8K race, were not the only standout outings as Daniel Hopkins (13th - 25:38.7) and Jax Ledford (25th - 25:55.8) also logged times that put them into the program's all-time top 25. Furthermore, the six other Bulldogs that competed in the 8K race all set new personal-best times on Saturday.
"Our men had one of our best performances in a long time," said Head Coach Adam Puett afterward. "We also had some great individual breakthroughs, which is always a positive."
The women's 5K race, meanwhile, consisted of a field of nearly 400 runners. India Appleton led the way for the Bulldogs on Saturday with a time of 18:40.7. This marked the third straight race this season that Appleton has logged a time that ranks within the all-time top 25 times in program history. Additionally, Alyx Evans logged a new personal-best 5K time clocking in at 19:01.1.
Overall, 19 Bulldog runners competed on Saturday. The women's team averaged a time of 19:25.94 in the 5K race, while the men's squad's average time in the 8K was 25:29.78.
