Women’s soccer hosts Elon Thursday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's soccer team returns to the pitch on Thursday, welcoming Elon to town for a 6:00 p.m. kick.

Knocking at the Door
The Bulldogs hosted ETSU on Sunday for the team's first home match all season, battling the Bucs to double overtime before ETSU was able to escape with a victory. After a first half in which they failed to register a shot, the Bulldogs fired 11 in the second half to end up with a season-high 13 on the day. Daysha Chaney, Gillian Oyos and Alice Walker all registered shots on goal, while Asheville rung a pair of shots off the post and crossbar before ETSU capitalized in the 102nd minute. Despite falling to 0-4 on the young season, two of the last three matches have been one-goal contests.

Scouting the Phoenix
Elon has had three matches thus far in the season, topping George Washington 2-0 but dropping contests against UNC Greensboro and Virginia Tech. The Phoenix are coming off a spring season in which they went 6-4 overall leading to a pair of 1-0 victories in the CAA Championship that advanced them to the NCAA Tournament (L 0-1, vs. Milwaukee). Sarah Bevington, Kayla Hodges and Molly Mahoney have all found the back of the net once this season, while McKenna Dalfonso has made three starts in net totaling seven saves.

Series History
Elon has gotten the better of Asheville historically, going 12-3-0 all-time. The last time the two teams met at Greenwood (2017), the Phoenix edged out the Bulldogs 2-1.
