Men's soccer drops contest at N.C. State

08.30.2021 | Men's Soccer

RALEIGH, N.C. – The UNC Asheville Men's Soccer hit the road for the first time this season, falling at N.C. State 4-0.

The Wolfpack got two goals in the first and two in the second to claim victory. N.C. State, which opened the season with a 2-0 victory over USC Upstate, improve to 2-0 while Asheville falls to 1-1 on the young season.

"N.C. State is a good program and have done extremely well in the calendar year of 2021. They are hard-working and explosive. We showed some good moments tonight but just weren't ruthless enough in front of goal whereas N.C. State was," said UNC Asheville Head Coach Mick Giordano. "That being said, the boys battled and will learn from this experience. It's why we schedule those games. We want to be here and play in big moments. Short turnaround but cannot fault the effort of the group, especially in the second half. Thank you to all the Bulldog fans that came out to support us tonight. We truly felt the royal blue love and it means a lot to have that support."

The Game at a Glance

  • Jake Kemhadjian registers two shots on goal
  • Wolfpack register 19 shots, seven on frame
  • Bulldogs drop to 1-1 on the season, visit Belmont Thursday

How it Happened
Behan registered the first shot of the game and the Bulldogs earned a corner in the sixth, but N.C. State countered with six straight shots capped off by a goal from Hille. The Wolfpack continued to press, doubling up the Bulldogs in the 25th when Will Buete found Henrique Santos for the score. In the 32nd, Nate Evans fired a shot but it was off target as the teams went into the break.

The two sides traded shots right out of the break with Leon Musial coming up with a save in the 66th to keep the deficit two. In the 80th, it was Hille again who broke through and finished to extend the lead to 3-0. N.C. State would add a fourth just minutes later when Santos set up Aidan Foster, taking the contest 4-0.

What's Next
Asheville remains on the road Thursday, traveling to Belmont. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. eastern time and can be seen on ESPN+.
