Men’s soccer travels to Belmont for Thursday matchup

09.01.2021 | Men's Soccer

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - After dropping its first game of the season Monday 4-0 against N.C. State, the UNC Asheville Men's Soccer Team will travel to Belmont University on Thursday for game two of a four-game road stretch. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. from E.S. Rose Park.

A look at the Bulldogs
UNC Asheville gave N.C. State decent looks throughout the game on Sunday night, but two late goals by the Wolfpack in the 79th and 82nd minutes put away what was a competitive contest. Redshirt freshman Leon Musial managed a heavy load of 19 shots with seven on goal, and tallied three saves on the night. The Bulldogs registered three shots on goal off and six shots total, with redshirt junior Jake Kemhadjian accounting for two of the shots on frame.

A Long Way from Home
The Bulldogs start the season with their longest road swing of the season, playing four games in a row away from Greenwood Soccer Field. After the Bruins, UNC Asheville will travel to Atlanta and Spartanburg next week, where they will take on Georgia State and Wofford.

Scouting the Bruins
Belmont enters Thursday's game with an 0-2 record, consisting of a 3-1 loss at No. 12 Missouri State, and a 1-0 loss at Central Arkansas. The Bruins registered four shots on goal against the nationally ranked Bears and took an early lead with a goal from senior Niccolo Dagnoni, but failed to capitalize allowing three unanswered goals. Against Central Arkansas, Belmont failed to put a shot on net, tallying only three total shots. In the 2021 spring season, Belmont earned a 7-3-2 record, including a trip to the Southern Conference Championship, where they would eventually fall 1-0 to UNC Greensboro.

Series History
The Bulldogs and Bruins have not met since the 2010 season, in a game the Bruins took 2-1. The all-time series is 3-2-1 in favor of Belmont, with a 2-2 draw coming in 2005.
