Women’s soccer travels to Furman Thursday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's soccer team caps off its three-game road trip on Thursday when it visits Furman. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. from Stone Stadium.
On the Road Again
After Asheville's home opener against Appalachian State (8/19) was moved to Boone due to Hurricane Fred, the Bulldogs traveled to Western Carolina on Sunday, falling to the Catamounts 2-1. Following Thursday's match at Furman, the Bulldogs will begin a five-game home stand at Greenwood Field.
Fresh Impact
Although it's been just two games, Asheville has gotten quality minutes out of a number of freshmen including Taylor Gardner who netted the team's first goal of the season at Western Carolina. Gardner and fellow rookie Daysha Chaney each registered a pair of shots against the Catamounts.
The Back Line
Newcomer Jasmine Barry, who played her freshman season at Rocky Mountain College, has racked up 132 minutes on the back line while senior defender Grace Sloan has played every minute thus far. In net, Bronwyn Luitwieler and Courtney O'Malley have each started one game, with Luitwieler turning away 10 shots at Western Carolina.
Scouting the Paladins
The preseason favorite to win the Southern Conference, Furman has gotten off to a 2-0 start this season. Both wins have come over Big South opponents, topping Presbyterian 3-0 before downing Longwood 2-0. Hannah Farr, who was named SoCon Player of the Week on Tuesday, and Kyndal Anderson have found the back of the net twice, while Addison Corn and Nora Sampson have combined for seven saves without conceding a goal.
Series History
The two sides have not played much in recent memory, meeting just twice since 2010 with Furman taking both matches in Greenville.
