Men’s soccer visits nationally-ranked High Point on Thursday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – With the regular season winding down, the UNC Asheville Bulldogs will travel to High Point on Thursday evening, facing off with the Panthers at 7:00 p.m. at Vert Stadium.
A look at the Bulldogs
Asheville goes into Thursday's match sporting a 2-3-1 overall record (all Big South games), most recently falling at Presbyterian. The Bulldogs, who had not played in nearly two weeks, fell behind 3-0 to the Blue Hose on Saturday, but nearly forced overtime as Taylor Durall and Izzy Garcia scored in the second half to cut the deficit to 3-2 before running out of time.
Scouting the Panthers
A perfect 7-0 in Big South play and 9-1 overall on the season, High Point, who is ranked No. 15 by Top No. 23 in the official NCAA Poll (United Soccer Coaches), has clinched the No. 1 overall seed in the upcoming Big South Championship which begins on April 14. While the Panthers have scored 29 goals, they have conceded just nine on the season. Entering the match, High Point ranks in the top five nationally in: goals scored (29), goal differential (24), points per game (8.80), assists per game (3.0), scoring offense (2.90) and total assists (30). Individually, MD Meyers ranks second in Division I with 11 goals scored and total points (27), while teammate Sebastian Chalbaud is eighth in total points (18) and ninth in total goals (7). In net, Holden Trent has recorded five shutouts (9th, DI) and leads the big South in save percentage (.815) and goals against average (.505).
Series History
High Point has gotten the better of Asheville in their matchups historically, going 14-2-2 all-time. The Bulldogs have won twice, in 2004 and 2005, tying the Panthers twice in 2008 and 2011.
