Volleyball Continues Road Swing with Two Matches at Charleston Southern
03.07.2021 | Women's Volleyball
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team will return to action on Monday and Tuesday as it travels to Charleston Southern for a pair of Big South matches. Monday's tilt is scheduled for a 6 p.m. first serve, while Tuesday's contest begins at 2 p.m. Both matches can be watched on ESPN+.
Last Time Out – Asheville downed Presbyterian in its last match in five sets (25-17, 24-26, 25-22, 22-25, 15-9). With the victory, the Bulldogs improved to 4-4 on the 2021 spring season.
Starting a Streak on the Road – After beginning the season 0-4, the Bulldogs have rattled off four consecutive victories. Asheville has not only won four matches in a row, but all four have come on the road. The last time the Bulldogs won four straight road matches was in 2018.
Peyton Putting Up Numbers – A key reason in Asheville's stellar play lately has been junior Peyton McClinton. During the team's winning streak, McClinton has totaled 58 kills, four aces, 38 digs, and 11 total blocks. Furthermore, McClinton was especially good in the two matches at Presbyterian with 37 kills over the two matches and set a career-high with 18 digs in the five-set win Friday.
About Charleston Southern – Charleston Southern has enjoyed quite a bit of success during the 2021 spring season. CSU currently sits second in the league standings with a 5-1 record. The Buccaneers' strength has been their balanced offensive attack as they have three players with at least 60 kills. Paige Reagor (69) leads the way, but Peyton Thompson (65) and Dayana Chara (65) are not too far behind for the team-lead in kills.
Series Rewind vs. Charleston Southern – Historically, the Bulldogs have held the advantage over the Buccaneers, winning 42 of the 57 all-time meetings. Asheville has won five straight matches between the two programs, with CSU's last victory coming on October 21, 2016, in four sets on its home floor.
How to Follow – As mentioned previously, both matches at Charleston Southern will air on ESPN+. Live stats will also be available for each contest, and in-match updates will be provided on the volleyball team's Twitter account.
