Men’s Tennis to host Montreat, Chattanooga

ASHEVILLE N.C. – After playing three matches in four days last week, the UNC Asheville Men's Tennis Team returns to the court Saturday, welcoming Montreat College and Chattanooga to the Asheville Racquet Club on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
Though the Bulldogs fell against Tusculum and at Wofford, they picked up a dominant 6-1 victory on Saturday at N.C. Central to sit at an even 2-2 on the young season. On Sunday at Wofford, Charlie Morkel and Jon Brann Reid captured a gritty victory at the No. 2 doubles position, while Harry Thursfield, Jon Brann Reid and Leo Bierbaum were able to grab victories at their respective flights.
Montreat enters Saturday just 1-4 on the season, with its lone win coming over Xavier University of Louisiana at the Grizzly Invitational. Ryan Little has led Montreat this season, going 4-1 in singles competition while Luigi Moretti is 3-2. Most recently, the Cavaliers fell 4-3 at Southern Wesleyan University.
Chattanooga enters the weekend 0-5 on the spring season, but will host UAB on Friday at 2:00 p.m. Most recently, the Mocs were edged out by Presbyterian 4-3 in Clinton on Sunday. In singles action, Thomas Rodriguez has gone 2-3 at the No. 1 flight, with Turner Voges going 2-1 at the No. 2 singles flight. Voges has teamed up with Simon Labbe to go 2-1 at No. 2 doubles competition.
The action will begin at 12:00 p.m. from the Asheville Racquet Club on Saturday and 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. Stay tuned to uncabulldogs.com for the results.
