Men’s Tennis downs Radford 5-2 in Big South match

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's tennis team hosted Radford at the Asheville Racquet Club on Sunday, defeating the Highlanders 5-2 to remain perfect in Big South play.
Asheville now moves to 7-4 overall this season, and is 4-0 in conference play. The Bulldogs will travel to ETSU on Wednesday for a nonconference matchup before hosting Xavier on Saturday. With the win, the Bulldogs have locked up at least a No. 2 seed in April's Big South Championship.
After taking two of three doubles matches to earn the team point, Jon Brann Reid and Charlie Morkel were each victorious in singles action, setting up Oli Nolan to clinch the team win with a victory at the No. 1 flight.
With the match forced indoors due to rain, Morkel and Reid teamed up at the No. 1 doubles flight and looked strong in their 6-2 victory. Leo Bierbaum and Harry Thursfield would handle their business at the No. 3 doubles, defeating their opponents 6-3 to grab the team point for the Bulldogs.
In singles action, Morkel took the first set 6-3 at the No. 2 flight before cruising 6-0 in the second set. Reid would battle to a 6-4 win in the first set at No. 3 singles, downing Guilherme Severin 6-3 in the second to claim the victory. With Asheville needing just one more point to clinch the win, Nolan edged out Yevhen Sirous 6-4 in set one, doubling up the score 6-3 in the second to grab the win at the No. 1 flight. Bierbaum would add another point to the team total, grinding out a 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 tiebreak-win at the No. 5 flight.
