Women’s Basketball Closes Regular Season with Two at Campbell
03.01.2021 | Women's Basketball
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's basketball team will conclude its regular season with a pair of games at Campbell on Tuesday and Wednesday. The tip-off time for both games is set for 5 p.m., and each contest will be on ESPN+.
Last Time Out – The Bulldogs dropped back-to-back games to Gardner-Webb last Thursday and Friday at Kimmel Arena by scores of 76-56 and 73-53. Those results moved Asheville's overall record to 10-12, including a 9-8 mark in league play.
Note on Nadiria – Heading into the regular season's final series, Nadiria Evans is currently tied for the conference lead in scoring average, 18.2 points per game. Overall, Evans has scored 401 points in 2020-21, which ranks 39th nationally. Being a guard, Evans has come by her points uniquely as she has scored all those points and has made just one 3-pointer all season. Delaware's Jasmine Dickey has the second-fewest 3-pointers made among guards in the nation's top 40 scorers with 11.
Finish Strong – Teams around the country always want to be playing their best basketball heading into the postseason. Asheville has done well with this recently as it is 4-2 in its last six regular-season finales dating back to the end of the 2014-15 campaign.
Big South Tournament Look-ahead – The Bulldogs enter the first week of March, sitting in fifth place in the Big South standings. Asheville sits directly in front of Radford and Presbyterian who both have .500 records in league play. The 2021 Big South women's basketball tournament will begin Saturday with first-round games. The quarterfinals (March 8), semifinals (March 11), and final (March 14) will take place next week. Each game of the tournament will be played at the higher seed.
About Campbell – Campbell currently sits second in the league standings percentage points of Longwood. The Fighting Camels are 12-6 overall and 9-4 in Big South play. A player to watch for Campbell on Tuesday and Wednesday is Taya Bolden. Bolden paces her team in scoring (12.4 PPG) and rebounding (9.9 RPG), and her rebounding average ranks 42nd nationally.
Series Rewind vs. Campbell – Campbell has had the advantage historically against Asheville winning 40 of the 55 all-time matchups. However, the series has gone the Bulldogs' way lately as they have won six of the last eight games between the two programs.
How to Follow – As mentioned earlier, both games at Campbell can be watched on ESPN+. Live stats will also be available each day, and that link can be found on the women's basketball team's schedule page.
