Bulldogs Fall in Series Opener at Campbell

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's basketball team fell to Campbell Tuesday evening in Big South action by a score of 65-34. Tuesday's loss moves Asheville's record to 10-13 overall and 9-9 in conference play.
The Bulldogs began Tuesday's contest slowly, and Campbell took full advantage. After one quarter, Asheville found itself by down by double digits. Faced with an early deficit, the Bulldogs played much better in the second quarter, but Campbell did as well. The Camels converted on nearly 65 percent of their shots from the field in the frame. Thanks to the stellar offense, Campbell took a 36-16 break into the halftime break.
Campbell kept the pressure on the Bulldogs when the game resumed for the second half. Campbell went down low against Asheville throughout the game racking up 44 points in the paint, while holding the edge on the glass too, 49-29. With these two factors working together, Campbell grew its lead even further over the final two quarters eventually finishing off the victory, 65-34.
Individually, Tamiah Lewis led the Bulldogs on the scoreboard with eight points in the contest. Fellow senior Amaryah Corpening chipped in seven. Raquel Cassidy had a good day rebounding collecting seven boards in 13 minutes of action.
Asheville will look to bounce back Wednesday as these same two teams will match up again. Wednesday's action is scheduled to get underway at 5 p.m., and the game can be seen on ESPN+.
