Women’s Basketball wraps up non-conference schedule Monday at Chattanooga

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's basketball team will wrap up its non-conference schedule on Monday when it visits Chattanooga. Tip-off between the Mocs and Bulldogs is set for 2 p.m., and the game can be seen on ESPN+.
Last Time Out – The Bulldogs dropped a 76-50 decision to Austin Peay at home last Thursday. With the loss, Asheville moves to 5-5 on the season.
Nadiria Moves to Fifth on Scoring List – Early in Thursday's contest vs. Austin Peay, Nadiria Evans moved up to fifth place on Asheville's all-time scoring list. Evans, who has netted 1,456 points in her time as a Bulldog, also ranks second on the school's scoring list during the Division I era trailing only Vicki Giffin's (1993-97) 1,703 points. Furthermore, Evans currently averages a Big South-leading 19.0 points per game.
Carter Catching Fire – After a bit of a slow start, junior Kai Carter has gotten her play back to where it was during the 2020-21 season, where she earned All-Big South Second Team honors. Over her last five games against Division I opponents, Carter is averaging 15.8 points per game compared to a 10.0 average prior.
Tops in Rebounding – A strength for Asheville through the first month of the season has been its ability to get rebounds. Currently, the Bulldogs lead all Big South teams averaging 39.4 rebounds per contest. That mark is up from a 35.4 mark a season ago.
Vs. SoCon teams in 2021-22 – The Bulldogs have already played several Southern Conference opponents this season. Asheville owns a 3-2 record against SoCon foes so far with victories over Western Carolina (74-72 – OT), Wofford (70-64), ETSU (66-56), and losses to UNC Greensboro (52-48) and Furman (64-49).
About Chattanooga – Chattanooga brings a record of 1-11 into Monday's matchup with the Bulldogs. The Mocs nearly ended a lengthy losing skid last time out, but they dropped a close one to North Alabama, 74-71. A player to watch for the Mocs is Abbey Cornelius, as she leads Chattanooga in scoring average (14.6), rebounding average (8.9), and blocks (17).
