Bulldogs set new program marks in Kimmel Arena
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's basketball team hosted St. Andrews University on Sunday afternoon, topping the Knights by a score of 106-36.
The Bulldogs had it going right from the start, knocking down 13 3-pointers in the first 20 minutes en route to eclipsing the century mark for the second time this season (Brevard), with six players reaching double figures. Coty Jude scored 19 points for the first time in two seasons, going 5-for-6 from 3-point range. Jordan Hairston poured in 14 points on four 3-pointers, while Quay Kimble knocked down three treys to finish with 12 points.
"It was good to see some shots go in, you know at North Carolina we got a lot of good looks, they just didn't fall," said UNC Asheville head coach Mike Morrell. "We're capable of nights like tonight because we have really good shooters on the floor. The guys were pretty disappointed in the Carolina game, so I thought they did a good job of having a great motor.
What's Next
The win evens UNC Asheville's record at 3-3 thus far. The Bulldogs will remain at home, hosting The Citadel this Wednesday with tip scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
"We've got to flush this one real quick and move on to The Citadel," Morrell said. "They've got an ACC road win already this year and we have a ton of respect for their program. We played them two years ago. They obviously can really, really shoot the ball so we want to keep things going here at home. We have a heck of a challenge Wednesday."
How it Happened
Jones opened up the game with a 3-pointer followed by buckets from Stephney and Battle as the Bulldogs were off to the races. Tajion Jones, Kimble, Hairston, Luke Lawson and Jude would all connect from downtown, as Asheville totaled its most points in a half in Kimmel Arena history, leading 70-13 at the break.
Kimble and Hairston opened up the second with 3-pointers, with Lawson and Jude following up from deep as the Bulldogs approached 100 points with just under eight to play. Kimble connected again with a three and Silas Mason put an exclamation point on the game with a slam dunk as the Bulldogs cruised to the win.
