Men’s soccer visits USC Upstate Saturday for last road trip of the year

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's soccer team will travel to Spartanburg to take on USC Upstate in the last road trip of the year at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
The Bulldogs are most recently coming off a makeup game against non-conference foe Furman last Wednesday, falling 2-1 after a late goal in the 83rd minute by the Paladins. Sophomore Silas Goss recorded his first career goal as a Bulldog in the 69th which put Asheville up for only a couple of minutes, before the Paladins quickly followed with an equalizer. The Bulldogs both outshot Furman and registered five more corner kick opportunities, while Leon Musial recorded two saves.
Scouting the Spartans
Sitting just in front of Asheville in the conference standings, Upstate stands at 3-8-3 and 1-3-2 in Big South play and have dropped their last three contests, including one in overtime. The Spartans are led by redshirt junior Mario Arrocha, who is one of two players in the Big South to record a hat-trick this season, and is third in the conference in scoring and 10th in assists.
Series History
The Bulldogs are 3-6-1 all-time against the Spartans and have won three contests in the last six matchups, including a 1-0 win in the 2019 campaign. Out of the 10 matchups, no contest has been won by more than two goals, with seven being decided by just one.
