ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville swimming and diving team will look to keep things rolling this weekend as it takes on UNC Wilmington and Campbell on Saturday. The diving team will take on the Seahawks in Wilmington, N.C., while the swimming team will take on both UNCW and Campbell in Buies Creek, N.C. All the action is scheduled to get underway at 11 a.m.
Last Time Out – Asheville kept its undefeated record intact thanks to victories over Gardner-Webb (189-73) and Bellarmine (201-60) last Friday. The Bulldogs are now 3-0 this season, which is the best start in the program's history.
Dominance in Dual Meets – The victories over Gardner-Webb and Bellarmine continue Asheville's recent dominance in dual meets. The Bulldogs are now 11-1-1 in dual meets dating back to November 2019.
Continued Success for Carlton - Carlton, who was named the CCSA Swimmer of the Week back on October 5th, played a vital role in the Bulldogs picking up a pair of victories against Gardner-Webb (189-73) and Bellarmine (201-60) in a double-dual meet on Friday. Individually, Carlton landed first-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.30) and 100-yard freestyle (52.06). In addition to those successes, Carlton also anchored the 400-yard freestyle relay victory for Asheville (3:33.08) with a split time of 52.11. She also posted a split time of 24.87 in the butterfly portion of the 200-yard medley relay.
About the Opponents – Wilmington enters Saturday's action sporting a 1-1 record so far. In mid-September, the Seahawks knocked off Army 181.50 to 118.50 but suffered a 196-96 setback against Tennessee to begin October.
Campbell, meanwhile, brings a 1-2 record with it into the matchups with UNCW and Asheville. After back-to-back losses to UNC Pembroke (132-130) and Liberty (167.5-97.5), the Camels rebounded to knock off ECU, 119-86, to capture their first win of the season.
Series Rewind vs. Opponents – Asheville will look to check off some more program-firsts Saturday as it has never defeated Campbell or UNC Wilmington. The Bulldogs and Seahawks have only met three times, with the last meeting occurring in 2019. However, with the series against Campbell, the Bulldogs did tie the Camels when the latter visited Asheville last October, 131-131.
