Men’s soccer visits Gardner-Webb Wednesday

10.12.2021 | Men's Soccer

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – After having its match Saturday postponed due to rain, the UNC Asheville men's soccer team visits Gardner-Webb for a match on Wednesday evening, with kickoff scheduled for 6:00 p.m.

Weathering the Storm
In addition to having its match this past weekend (Campbell) moved due to rain, Asheville's most recent match against Radford (10/6) had to be played at the local John B. Lewis Field because of the weather. The Bulldogs fought through periods of downpours, and forced overtime with a Myles Edmondson goal in the 87th, but ultimately fell 2-1 in overtime.

Scouting the Runnin' Bulldogs
Gardner-Webb enters Wednesday's match on a three-game skid, with its lone conference win (1-2) coming at USC Upstate (September 25). The Runnin' Bulldogs most recently fell at Campbell 6-1, scoring their other victory of the season (2-9 overall) against VMI. Gardner-Webb has found the back of the net just seven times thus far, with Sebastian Reventlow scoring two goals and dishing out an assist this season.

Series History
The Runnin' Bulldogs have the edge in the all-time series, going 12-5-1. When the teams met to cap off the spring 2021 season, Asheville had an offensive outburst to the tune of a 4-0 victory, snapping a three-game losing streak in the series. Asheville's last victory in Boiling Springs came in 2004.

Looking ahead: Be the Match
Asheville's next game will be this Saturday (October 16) as it hosts Presbyterian for Senior Day. Additionally, Saturday will serve as the "Be the Match" game. The initiative, powered by UNC Asheville's Taylor Durall, is to raise awareness to the National Bone Marrow Donor program, grow its registry and find patients who are in need of a match that could save their life from diseases such as leukemia or lymphoma. The match will feature food trucks, alumni tents, and beverage trucks.
