ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Coming off a double-overtime winner on Wednesday, the UNC Asheville women's soccer team remains home for its next match, hosting Charleston Southern at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Third Time's the Charm
Wednesday night marked the third extra-time game of the season (Loss, tie), finally breaking through with a win as Taylor Gardner one-timed a feed from Kaiya Boyd as Asheville topped USC Upstate 1-0 in the 104th minute. The win was also the third consecutive year that the Bulldogs topped the Spartans in extra time.
Senior Shutouts
Courtney O'Malley has been very solid in net of late, registering two straight shutout victories to give the senior from Cumming, Georgia, three on the season. O'Malley registered four saves in each of the last two games, cutting down numerous crosses and even a couple 1-on-1s against USC Upstate.
Scouting the Bucs
Entering the weekend, Charleston Southern is 2-4-1 overall with a 1-2-0 record in the Big South. The Bucs most recently topped Presbyterian 2-0, snapping a two-game skid. Charleston Southern has scored just six goals while conceding 13 but are being outshot by only one (82-81). Jenea Knight and Emma Ryan each have a pair of goals while Katie Carnes has dished out three assists. Jenna Moran has gotten the nod in net, totaling 32 saves but giving up 12 scores.
Series History
The Bucs have the slight edge all time, going 18-15-2 and are 7-7 in Asheville, having won five straight in the series. When the teams met last year in Charleston, the Bucs were able to slide by with a 2-1 win in overtime. The last win for Asheville came in 2015 at Greenwood Field (1-0).
