Bulldogs Drop Road Match in Florida

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – UNC Asheville's men's tennis team dropped its road match at Palm Beach Atlantic, 4-2, Monday night.
Leo Bierbaum and Finlay Ray McFadyen got things started off well for the Bulldogs (7-6, 1-0 Big South), winning their doubles match at No. 3, 6-1, against Umberto Rosi and Joao Vellosso. The Sailfish, though, would win close matches in the first two draws, 7-5 and 6-4, respectively, to earn the doubles point.
The Sailfish took the first two points in singles at No. 5 and No. 3. Charlie Morkel secured the first point for the Bulldogs with a three-set victory at No. 1. He took the first set against Rosi, 6-3, before falling in the second, 6-4. He responded with a 6-4 victory in the decisive third set.
Edward Colclough delivered the second point for Asheville, defeating Miguel Paz at the No. 6 spot. After dropping the first set, 6-4, he took the second and third sets both by a 6-3 margin.
Bierbaum had an opportunity to tie the dual against Philipp Hoffmann at the No. 2 draw. He dropped the first set, 6-4, but rebounded with a 6-2 victory in Set Two to level the match. Hoffmann, though, would take the third, 6-4.
The Bulldogs wrap up their three-match road trip with a 3 p.m., Thursday, showdown at Keiser.
