03.08.2020 | Men's Tennis
CHARLESTON, S.C. – UNC Asheville's men's tennis won its fourth straight match, taking down College of Charleston, 5-2, on the road, Saturday.
Things got off to a rocky start for the Bulldogs (7-5), as they dropped the doubles point and found themselves trailing 1-0 going into singles play.
The Dogs found their collective rhythm in singles, winning five of the six matches. Quinn Fender leveled the dual at 1-1, taking down Robby Krick at the No. 6 sport, 6-3, 6-3. Freshman Harry Thursfield followed with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph at No. 5 against Easton Thomas.
Charlie Morkel put the Bulldogs up 3-1 with a 6-2, 7-5 victory against Ben Cawston at the No. 1 draw. Leo Bierbaum made it four-in-a-row for Asheville, defeating Andre Limon 6-3, 6-5 at the No. 3 spot.
Oli Nolan won his first set in a tiebreaker at No. 2 against Karl Mosterd. He came back to take the second set, 6-3, to give the Bulldogs their fifth point.
"We have to start doing a better job with doubles," head coach Tom Hand said. "I was pleased with how we came out in the singles to steal the momentum back and managed to ride it to a solid win against a tough team."
The Bulldogs return to action 4 p.m., Monday, in a road matchup at Palm Beach Atlantic.
