Dougah Named Big South Freshman of the Week

CHARLOTTE – Ami Grace Dougah of the UNC Asheville women's tennis team earned recognition as the Big South Conference's Freshman of the Week, the league announced Friday.
The Lawrenceville, Ga. Native recorded a 2-0 record in singles play last week, helping the Bulldogs to a 2-0 record to begin Big South play.
Dougah secured a critical victory at No. 2 singles against Winthrop, March 6, facing off against Rafaela Santos. She dominated the first set, 6-1, but came up short in a tightly-contested second, 7-5. With the Bulldogs and Eagles tied, 2-2, Dougah earned a 6-4 triumph in the third set and positioned the Bulldogs for the 4-3 victory.
She began the week with a straight-sets victory against USC Upstate's Maria Jardim at the No. 2 draw, winning 6-1, 6-2, to help the Bulldogs secure a 6-1 victory. She and teammate Brianna Taranto were up 5-2 in their doubles match on the second court, but it went unfinished as the Bulldogs had already secured the doubles point.
It is the second Freshman of the Week Award for Dougah this season, as she earned the recognition February 12.
