Bulldogs to Face Big South Leader Campbell Saturday

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – UNC Asheville women's basketball will travel to Buies Creek, N.C., Saturday, February 8, for a 2 p.m. matchup with the Campbell Camels inside Gore Arena.

UNC Asheville (12-9, 6-6) has played to a 6-6 record in Big South Conference play. Three of the Bulldogs six victories have come from inside Kimmel Arena as UNC Asheville has defeated Presbyterian, Campbell and High Point at home. The Bulldogs defeated USC Upstate in the Hodge Center for their first Big South road win of the season before taking down preseason favorite Radford inside the Dedmon Center a few days later. The Bulldogs grabbed another victory on the road last week as they defeated Winthrop, 50-43, inside the Winthrop Coliseum.

Since conference play began on Dec. 28, two Bulldogs have averaged a double-digit point total as Nadiria Evans has scored 13.6 points per game in conference play while redshirt senior Sonora Dengokl is currently averaging 12.7 points per game through the first 12 Big South games of the season. Brooke Jordan-Brown is leading the Big South Conference with 12.3 rebounds a game since conference play began.

The Camels currently occupy the top spot in the Big South Conference standings with a 10-1 record. They are currently on an eight-game win streak as their last loss, and only conference loss, came at the hands of the Bulldogs on January 4. UNC Asheville got the best of Campbell as the Bulldogs came away with a 60-52 victory inside Kimmel Arena.

The Bulldogs will play again, Tuesday, February 11, when they travel to Clinton, S.C. for a 6 p.m. matchup with Presbyterian.

  • The Bulldogs and the Camels faced off early in the conference season as the two teams met on January 4 inside Kimmel Arena. UNC Asheville defeated Campbell 60-52 in that matchup. Three Bulldogs scored in double digits in the win as Nadiria Evans led with 20 points while Sonora Dengokl (14) and Amaryah Corpening (12) also had 10+.
  • Redshirt senior Sonora Dengokl scored her 1,000th career point on February 4. The Sumter, S.C. native is now the 21st Bulldog in UNC Asheville history to reach the career milestone. Dengokl is currently averaging 12.7 points a game through her first 12 Big South Conference games. She has scored in double digits in 10 conference games.
  • Brooke Jordan-Brown has averaged 12.3 rebounds per game since Big South Conference play began on December 28. She is 22nd in the nation in offensive rebounds per game and 31st in total rebounds.
  • Sonora Dengokl has scored in double-digits in 15 of UNC Asheville's 21 games this season. She has scored 10+ points in 10 of 12 Big South Conference games this season.
  • Nadiria Evans has scored in double-figures in 14 games this season.
  • Evans and Dengokl have scored in double-figures in the same game 10 times.
  • UNC Asheville currently ranks 13th in the nation in offensive rebounds per game and 14th in rebounding margin. UNC Asheville is also 24th in total rebounds per game. The Bulldogs sit atop the Big South in all three categories. The Bulldogs have won or tied in the rebounding battle in 19 of their 21 games this season.
  • UNC Asheville is 27th in the nation in fewest points allowed and is currently second in the Big South in the category. UNC Asheville has allowed 60 points or less in all 12 of their victories this season.
