Bulldogs Earn First Road Victory of the Season

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – UNC Asheville's women's tennis team earned a victory in its first road matchup of the year, taking down Emmanuel, 6-1, Saturday.
The Bulldogs (6-1) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after securing the doubles point. Lize Alet Morkel and Rosie Dickson defeated Maria Raich Solans and Julia Ramos at the No. 1 spot, 6-1. The senior duo of Lauren Watson-Steele and Emily Sidor picked up their sixth victory of the season, taking down Marta Rozados Barreiro and Lauren Castillon, 6-2, at the No. 3 draw.
Watson-Steele put together a strong performance at No. 3 singles, taking down Zyanya Rogel Valencia with two dominating sets, 6-0, 6-0. Her senior teammate Sidor also performed well, earning a 6-2, 6-1 victory against Victoria Silva at No. 4.
Morkel also scored a straight-sets victory, defeating Elisa Man-Hsuang Weng, 6-3, 6-3, at the No. 2 draw. Dickson had a tight first set against Ramos at No. 5, but earned a 7-5 result and followed that up with a 6-1 victory in Set Two.
Ami Grace Dougah, playing at the No. 1 spot, dropped her first set against Raich Solans, 6-2, but tied up the match with a 6-4 triumph in Set Two. She won the third set tie-breaker to give the Dogs their sixth point.
The Bulldogs will return to action in a 1 p.m., Sunday, contest at Kennesaw State.
