Bulldogs Host South Carolina State in Friday Afternoon Matchup

ASHEVILLE – UNC Asheville's men's tennis team is set to host its second home dual in three days when it welcomes South Carolina State for a 3 p.m. matchup, Friday, at the Asheville Racquet Club.
The Bulldogs (4-5) are coming off a 7-0 sweep of Tusculum, Wednesday afternoon, in just their second home match of the year.

EARNING RECOGNITION
Two Bulldogs have earned the Big South Conference's Player of the Week Award so far this season. Leo Bierbaum earned the first of his career, January 29, for his play in the season's opening week. Charlie Morkel earned the first of his career as well, February 5, after the Bulldogs downed James Madison.
Harry Thursfield was named the conference's Freshman of the Week for his performance against James Madison.

LEADING THE WAY
Thursfield owns a 5-3 record in singles competition, playing across the No. 3, 4 and 5 spots. He has spent the majority of his time at No. 5, compiling a 3-1 record, but he has at least one victory in all three positions. Bierbaum also has a 5-3 record in singles, competing at the same three spots. He has a 3-2 record playing at No. 4.
The pairing of Morkel and Oli Nolan is 2-3 playing at the No. 1 doubles position, and each leads the team with three individual doubles victories.

South Carolina State is 1-3 to begin the season, with its lone victory coming against Big South Conference foe Gardner-Webb, 4-2, February 1. The Bulldogs fell in their most recent matchup against Coastal Carolina, 4-3, February 22.
