ASHEVILLE – UNC Asheville's men's tennis team will return home for the first of three consecutive home matchups this week when it takes on Tusculum in a 2 p.m., Wednesday, contest at the Asheville Racquet Club.
It will be just the second home dual of the season for the Bulldogs (3-5), who have played seven on the road so far. The Bulldogs defeated James Madison, 5-2, in their only previous home matchup, February 1.
Â
EARNING RECOGNITION
Two Bulldogs have earned the Big South Conference's Player of the Week Award so far this season. Leo Bierbaum earned the first of his career, January 29, for his play in the season's opening week. Charlie Morkel earned the first of his career as well, February 5, after the Bulldogs downed James Madison.
Harry Thursfield was named the conference's Freshman of the Week for his performance against James Madison.
Â
LEADING THE WAY
Thursfield owns a 5-3 record in singles competition, playing across the No. 3, 4 and 5 spots. He has spent the majority of his time at No. 5, compiling a 3-1 record, but he has at least one victory in all three positions. Bierbaum has a 4-3 record in singles, competing at the same three spots. He has a 3-2 record playing at No. 4.
The pairing of Morkel and Oli Nolan is 2-3 playing at the No. 1 doubles position.

SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
Tusculum comes in at 6-1 and has won five straight matches. The Pioneers only loss has been to Indianapolis, who was ranked No. 12 in the Division II polls at the time.
Leon Huck leads the team with a 6-0 singles record, playing primarily in the No. 5 spot. The Pioneers have used myriad doubles tandems, but Jacco Mensinga and Gabriel Yaguar have played the most, owning a 3-2 record.
