CHARLOTTE, N.C. – UNC Asheville baseball first baseman Easton Jones has been named the Big South Player of the Week for his work on the diamond last week. The league made the official announcement, Monday, February 24.

Jones led the Bulldogs to a 2-2 record last week as the junior hit .556 and had multi-hit performances in all four games last week. The right-handed hitting first baseman slugged .611 and reached base at a .579 clip. Jones had 10 hits and scored four runs as he hit fifth for the Bulldogs in all four games. He also had two RBIs and was credited with 11 total bases.

The Ramseur, N.C. native had six hits, one RBI and three runs scored in both of the Bulldogs victories last week. He went 8-13 (.615 avg.) in the weekend series versus UAB.

Jones, a transfer from Brunswick Community College, has begun his Bulldog career hitting .400 through his first seven games in a UNC Asheville uniform.

It is the first Player of the Week honor for Jones in his career and the first time the Bulldogs have had a Big South Player of the Week since Greg Gasparro received the honor in March of last season.

The Bulldogs will continue play this week as they travel to Knoxville, Tenn. for a matchup with the Volunteers, Wednesday, before heading to Nashville, Tenn. for a three-game series with Belmont this weekend.
