CHARLOTTE – For the second straight week, UNC Asheville's women's tennis sophomore Lize Alet Morkel has earned the Big South Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.

Morkel helped the Bulldogs secure two critical points in a thrilling 4-3 victory against Chattanooga, last Friday. She teamed up with freshman Rosie Dickson at No. 1 doubles and picked up a strong 6-2 victory against the Mocs' Emma Van Hee and Caroline Gibbons as the Bulldogs opened the match by securing the doubles point.

The Western Cape, South Africa native then scored a huge singles victory playing in the No. 1 spot. Five of the six singles matches went three sets, including Morkel's. After falling in the first set, 6-4, she rebounded with a resounding 6-2 victory in the second set. She then earned the victory with a 6-4 result in the decisive third set.

It is the second consecutive Big South Player of the Week Award for Morkel and the fourth of her career. It is the third time this season a Bulldog has claimed the award, as senior Emily Sidor received the honor, January 29.

The Bulldogs close out their six-match season-opening home stand when they host North Greenville in a 1 p.m. contest, Friday, at the Asheville Racquet Club.
