Four Score in Double-Digits as Bulldogs Defeat Presbyterian on the Road Tuesday Evening

CLINTON, S.C. – UNC Asheville women's basketball defeated the Blue Hose of Presbyterian Tuesday evening by a score of 64-48 inside the Templeton Center in Clinton, S.C.

Four Bulldogs scored in double-digits as Sonora Dengokl led all scorers in the game with 19 points. Nadiria Evans was right behind as she scored 17 in the victory. Brooke Jordan-Brown secured a double-double as she scored 11 points and led the Bulldogs with 14 rebounds. Zip Scott was the fourth Bulldog to score in double-digits as she finished the game with 10 points.

Presbyterian scored first but the Bulldogs led for most of the first quarter as they grabbed the lead with 5:55 left to play and never relinquished it. UNC Asheville's defense was most of the reason as they caused the Blue Hose to go on a scoring drought of more than five minutes in the middle of the quarter. The Bulldogs had a 10-5 lead with just over three minutes left to play in the quarter and led 15-11 after the first 10 minutes of play.

The Bulldogs attempted to extend their lead in the opening minutes of the second quarter as UNC Asheville's defense got two straight stops on the Blue Hose offense while the Bulldogs scored five points in the first two minutes of the quarter to increase their lead to nine. The Blue Hose cut the deficit to seven with just under seven minutes to play but the Bulldogs held Presbyterian scoreless for the next five minutes as UNC Asheville built their into double-digits leading 24-14 with 4:43 left to play. The Blue Hose began to cut the deficit at the two minute mark as they scored six points over the final two minutes of the half as UNC Asheville went into halftime leading 28-20.

Brooke Jordan-Brown and Sonora Dengokl led all scorers in the first half with nine points each while Jordan-Brown also corralled nine rebounds. Zip Scott and Nadiria Evans were next on UNC Asheville with four point each.

The Bulldogs opened the third quarter on a 7-3 run forcing Presbyterian to call a timeout just two and a half minutes in as UNC Asheville had their largest lead of the game as they were up by 12. The Bulldogs built upon their lead even further as UNC Asheville forced Presbyterian to use their second timeout of the game before they reached the five minute mark in the third quarter. UNC Asheville extended their lead to 15 as the Bulldogs led 43-28 with 5:18 left to play in the third quarter. The Bulldogs led by 18 with just over four minutes to play in the quarter but Presbyterian cut it to 13 as UNC Asheville led at the end of the third by a score of 49-36.

The Bulldogs largest lead of the game was 22 with 6:32 left to play in the game. UNC Asheville held Presbyterian to only nine points through the first eight minutes of the fourth quarter as the Bulldogs found themselves with a 19 point lead with only two minutes to play. UNC Asheville secured the 64-48 victory as they won their seventh Big South Conference game of the season.
