UNC Asheville Women’s Tennis Earns Big South Team Sportsmanship Award

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – UNC Asheville women's tennis received the Big South Women's Tennis Team Sportsmanship Award on Friday, May 31, 2019.
The Bulldogs shared the 2019 Big South Women's Tennis Team Sportsmanship Award with Winthrop. The honor is the second for UNC Asheville women's tennis with the Bulldogs also claiming the Big South Women's Tennis Team Sportsmanship Award in 2014.
At the conclusion of each Big South championship, student-athletes on each team rank the top three teams in the Conference for the Team Sportsmanship Award for that particular sport. The team(s) with the most points in the voting receives the honor.
The Big South Team Sportsmanship Award for women's tennis continues a special spring campaign for UNC Asheville women's tennis that included the Bulldogs advancing to the Big South Tournament semifinals for the second time in the last three years.
UNC Asheville's Lize Alet Morkel was named the Big South Conference Women's Tennis Freshman of the Year in addition to earning all-conference honors in doubles with Taylor Love. UNC Asheville's Emily Sidor was chosen to the Big South Women's Tennis All-Academic Team.
The UNC Asheville women's tennis team posted an incredibly impressive 3.622 grade-point average as a team during their regular season in the spring of 2019. The Bulldogs on the 2018-19 athletic year posted a team GPA of 3.665.
