Women’s Tennis to Now Close Regular Season by Hosting USC Upstate Wednesday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's tennis team is set to play their final match of the regular season on Wednesday, April 10, 2019.
The match was originally scheduled for Tuesday, but now the Bulldogs will host the Spartans of USC Upstate at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
This will be the first matchup between the two programs as conference rivals with USC Upstate joining the Big South Conference prior to the 2018-2019 athletic year.
The Bulldogs are 7-8 on the season and 2-6 in the Big South Conference. UNC Asheville is 7-2 on their home courts. They opened the season winning five of six home matches and have won two of the last three matches at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown.

Last Time Out
The Bulldogs celebrated Senior Day on Saturday, April 6 with a dominant shutout victory over conference rival Hampton. Saturday's match was the second time this season that the Bulldogs defeated their opponent 7-0.
The Bulldogs grabbed the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. Lize Alet Morkel and Lauren Watson-Steele won the match at No. 2, 6-2, while the senior duo of Kylee Shipley and Hannah Francisco shut out their opponents with a 6-0 win at No. 3.
Watson-Steele began singles for the Bulldogs with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 4. Shipley grabbed her fifth win of the season with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 5. Madeline Finley grabbed the win at No. 6 with a 6-3, 6-3 defeat of Julia d'Auvergne to clinch the victory for the Bulldogs.
Christin Louw won the point at No. 3 and Lize Alet Morkel and Emily Sidor both won three-set thrillers at No. 1 and No. 2 to shut out the Pirates and give the Bulldogs the victory.

Scouting USC Upstate
USC Upstate is 2-17 and 1-6 in the Big South Conference. The Spartans only conference win was a 5-2 victory over Hampton on April 7. The Spartans have been shut out five times this season. Three of those shutout losses have come in the last week and two were against conference opponents Winthrop and Radford.
