UNC Asheville to Travel to High Point for Three-Game Series; Weekend Schedule Altered Due to Weather

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The UNC Asheville baseball team is set to face High Point for a three-game weekend road schedule this weekend. Due to the weather forecast for Friday, the series will now take place as a Saturday-Monday series on April 27-29.
First pitch for game one is scheduled for Saturday, April 27 at 2 p.m. while game two is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start time on Sunday. The series will conclude on Monday, April 29 with a 3 p.m. first pitch. Â Â

About the Bulldogs
The Bulldogs are 14-26 on the 2019 season. They are tied for sixth place in the Big South Conference with an 8-10 conference record and are only two games back of the fifth-place High Point Panthers.
In UNC Asheville's win over Charleston Southern on April 20, Brandon Lankford hit his team-leading 13th home run of the season. That total is now second best in the Big South Conference and is only one behind the conference leader. The total also puts Lankford among the top 16 NCAA Division I players in the country in that category. Lankford's 13 home runs are a new career high and the total gives the junior 31 career home runs in his three seasons in a Bulldog uniform.
UNC Asheville tacked on 11 runs in its rout of Charleston Southern on Saturday. Three Bulldogs had multi-hit games while four Bulldogs finished with two or more RBIs. Greg Gasparro continued to be a catalyst from the leadoff spot. The junior reached base a total of four times and scored two runs. The left-handed hitting outfielder/pitcher is hitting .351 in his 97 at-bats this season. Jake Madole put UNC Asheville on the board with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first. That homer was his fifth of the year and the redshirt junior finished the game with three hits and three RBIs. Danny Wilson and Joe Gruszka also had multi-RBI games in the win over Charleston Southern.
On the hill, Gasparro threw a gem in game one of the series versus Charleston Southern. The left-handed hurler threw five innings of four hit ball and allowed only one run in the process. Blake Brown made two appearances out of the bullpen in the weekend series. The right-hander allowed two unearned runs without giving up a hit in his four innings of work.
In UNC Asheville's win over Western Carolina on April 24, eight Bulldogs reached base and all eight scored at least one run on their way to an 11-8 win over their mountain rival. Danny Wilson reached base four times. The senior had three RBIs and also touched home three times. Chris Troost had two doubles, a triple and two RBIs in the victory over the Catamounts.
Freshman JP Perez threw a season high four innings out of the bullpen in the win over Western Carolina. The left-handed hurler scattered four hits and one run in what was his longest outing of his career.  Â
About the Panthers
High Point is 17-19 overall this season. They currently have sole possession of fifth place in the Big South Conference standings with a 10-8 record. The Panthers are 7-9 in games played on their home field.
Three Panthers are currently hitting over the .300 mark on the season. Daniel Millwee leads the way hitting at a .319 clip. The redshirt senior catcher also leads the team with seven home runs and 27 RBIs. He is tied for the team lead in total bases with teammate Travis Holt at 71. Holt is hitting .307 on the season with five home runs. The sophomore leads the Panthers with nine doubles this season. Joe Johnson is hitting .303 with 25 RBIs. The two-way player has accumulated 132 at bats this season while also throwing 46.1 innings from the mound.
Harrison Smith has started eight games on the mound for the Panthers. The righty has pitched to a 2.74 ERA in 42.2 innings. He is also first on the team with 48 strikeouts. Grey Lyttle has made 11 appearances and four starts for the Panthers. The junior has thrown 37.2 innings with a 3.82 ERA. He has picked up three wins and three saves so far in the 2019 season. Jacob Winger has made 12 appearances out of the bullpen and pitched to a 2.05 ERA in 22 innings of work. The righty has picked up three wins and 24 strikeouts on the season.
