Bulldogs Drop Game One at Georgia Southern

STATESBORO, Ga. – To open a three-game non-conference series, the UNC Asheville baseball team fell to Georgia Southern, 5-1, at J.I. Clements Stadium on Friday night.

Highlights
Georgia Southern opened the scoring in the home half of the first inning with a lone run. The first two Eagles reached base via a walk and a throwing error. Steven Curry later scored thanks to a Noah Ledford single.
After a quiet second frame, Carmine Pagano tried to start a surge in the top of the third inning, as he connected with a double down the left field line. However, he was left in scoring position.
The Eagles tacked on one run in the third, as Tyler Martin scored on a wild pitch with two outs.
Down 2-0, UNC Asheville earned its first run, as the Bulldogs took advantage of a two-out fielding error. Danny Wilson smacked a single to center, as the hit plated Brandon Lankford from second.
Starting pitcher Jordan Carr really settled in on the bump, as the redshirt junior forced back-to-back 1-2-3 innings.
However, Georgia Southern added a pair of runs with two outs, as Jason Swan and Matt Anderson smacked two doubles in a row. Mason Miller and Curry followed with two singles to score their teammates.
The Eagles tacked on one more run in the eighth inning to seal the 5-1 victory.
Carr went 5.2 innings and struck out six batters in the road game. Eric Whitecavage posted a solid 1.1 innings, as the senior allowed just one hit of shutout ball. He also struck out one.
Pagano was the only Bulldog with multiple hits, as the shortstop tallied a double and a single.
Greg Gasparro added a hit and a walk, while Wilson posted a RBI hit.
UNC Asheville falls to 4-8 on the year, and Georgia Southern advances to 6-6 on the season.
