Morkel Selected Big South Women's Tennis Player of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For the third time this season, UNC Asheville freshman Lize Alet Morkel has received a weekly award from the Big South Conference with her honoring as Women's Tennis Player of the Week by the league office on Wednesday, March 20, 2019.
A mid-year enrollee, Morkel was first named conference Player of the Week on Jan. 23, 2019. She was chosen as the Big South Women's Tennis Freshman of the Week on Feb. 6, 2019.
Last week in UNC Asheville's first win over Charleston Southern since 2009, Morkel picked up a win at No. 1 singles and doubles.
She collected a 6-2, 6-4 win over Filippa Ericson at No. 1 singles and teamed with Taylor Love to garner a 6-2 win over Tiffany Pyritz and Madalina Man at No. 1 doubles.
In singles on the 2019 spring season, Morkel is an impressive 8-1 overall. She has played all of her matches at No. 1 singles. Morkel also has a team-best eight wins in doubles.
The Bulldogs next will have four straight conference road matches versus Longwood, Campbell, Gardner-Webb and Presbyterian. The first of these will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, when the Bulldogs face Longwood in Longwood, Va.
