BULLDOG BITES
About UNC Asheville
After an impressive 6-1 stretch in the last seven games, UNC Asheville travels to Gore Arena with an overall record of 11-10 and a 6-4 mark in Big South games.
In Big South games this year, two Bulldogs are averaging double digits – Sonora Dengokl and Jessica Wall. Dengokl has started in six games this year and averages 17.7 points per game, and Wall is right behind her with 13.0 ppg in 10 starts. The two Bulldogs have combined for 236 points, 87 made field goals, 20 steals and 34 assists this year against league foes.
Four other Bulldogs are averaging 5.2 ppg or more in league games this year – Zip Scott (7.4 ppg), Nadiria Evans (7.3 ppg), Brooke Jordan-Brown (5.4 ppg) and Ali Trani (5.2 ppg). Scott and Evans have combined for 147 points in 10 appearances each.
Jordan-Brown has been a force on the boards in league games this year. The junior center is averaging seven rebounds a game, as she has corralled 44 total defensive boards in Big South games. Jimeshia Lawson is averaging four rebounds a game, including a team-best 20 total offensive rebounds.
Scouting Campbell
Toting a two-game win streak, the Camels welcome the Bulldogs to Buies Creek with a 13-8 overall record and a 5-5 mark in league games. In their last two games, the Camels defeated Longwood, 66-60, and USC Upstate, 61-41. They are currently sitting in fifth place, one spot behind UNC Asheville, in the Big South Conference standings.
The Camels have multiple offensive threats in Lauren Carter, Shyanne Tuelle ad Taya Bolden, as all three are averaging 7.9 ppg or more this year. Carter has a team-high 8.9 ppg, while Tuelle (8.2 ppg) and Bolden (7.9 ppg) are right behind the Camel. Campbell also has four other players that are also averaging 5.6 ppg or more as well.
Defensively Bolden is the team's leader in rebounds, as she is corralling 8.5 rebounds per game. She has grabbed an impressive 179 total rebounds, including 69 on the offensive glass. Kyra Davis (4.7 rpg) and Ashlyn Hampton (4.6 rpg) are second and third, respectively, on the team in rebounding average.
All-Time History Versus the Camels
Saturday's meeting will be the 43rd all-time head-to-head meeting between the Bulldogs and Camels. UNC Asheville has won five straight contests against Campbell, including a pair of victories in the Big South Conference Tournament.
In the earlier head-to-head matchup this season between the two teams, UNC Asheville claimed the victory, 60-52. Dengokl had a game-high 23 points on 7-for-12 shooting. Scott was the second Bulldog in double figures, as the junior totaled 12 points on 4-for-9 shooting. Launa Serranho led Campbell in points with nine, while Carter and Hampton combined for 16 points.
