UNC Asheville Women’s Tennis Set to Host Appalachian State Friday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville women's tennis will play host to Appalachian State on Friday, March 1, at 1 p.m. at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown.
The Bulldogs have had two weeks off since their last match due to last weekend's match being postponed because of weather. The Bulldogs are 5-3 on the season and are 5-2 at home.
The match will be played indoors.
BULLDOG BITES
Last Time Out
UNC Asheville women's tennis dropped their conference opener to Radford on Feb. 16 at home.
The Bulldogs opened the match by taking the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. In singles, Emily Sidor swept the match 2-0 at No. 4. Lize Alet Morkel won in a tiebreaker in the third set at No. 1.
Radford would win the remaining matches to clinch the win and hand UNC Asheville its first home loss since Jan. 20, 2019.
Freshman Standout
UNC Asheville women's tennis freshman standout Lize Alet Morkel was chosen as the Big South Women's Tennis Freshman of the Week on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2019.
The honor is the second from the league that Morkel has received this season. A mid-year enrollee, Morkel was also named conference Player of the Week on Jan. 23, 2019.
On the season, Morkel is undefeated at 7-0 in singles. She has played all of her matches at No. 1 singles.
Scouting Appalachian State
Appalachian State is 3-2 on the season and 1-1 on the road. The Mountaineers have dropped matches to Davidson and North Carolina, while defeating Western Carolina, ETSU and UNCG.

The Bulldogs will play two road matches next week. They will play their first conference road match of the season when they travel to Rock Hill, S.C. on Wednesday, March 6, to face Winthrop at 2 p.m. The Bulldogs will then hit the road again with a trip to Wofford on Saturday, March 9, at 12 p.m.
