Jordan-Brown’s Career Day Leads Bulldogs to Victory in Conference Opener

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville women's basketball began the Big South Conference portion of their 2019-20 schedule by defeating Presbyterian, 54-39, Saturday afternoon inside Kimmel Arena.
Brooke Jordan-Brown set a new career high in rebounds by corralling 23 boards in the victory. Jordan-Brown's 23 rebounds were only five short of the UNC Asheville Division I record of 28 set by Kellie Riles in 2011.
The Bulldogs got on the board first with a layup from Jordan-Brown 30 seconds in the game. UNC Asheville dominated most of the first half as the Bulldogs led 11-2 at one point and ended the quarter with a 13-4 lead. Amaryah Corpening led with five points in the first quarter while Nadiria Evans and Zip Scott each contributed with three.
Jordan-Brown showed out in the opening quarter as the senior center corralled 11 of her career high 23 rebounds in the first 10 minutes of the game. Six of her 11 first quarter rebounds came on the offensive end of the floor.
The Blue Hose tested the Bulldogs in the second quarter of the game as UNC Asheville was outscored 15-11 and went into the half with a narrow 24-19 lead. Scott hit her second three of the game and Jordan Brown secured four more rebounds to match her previous career high of 15.
The Bulldogs improved upon their halftime lead with a huge third quarter that saw UNC Asheville score 15 points and limit the Blue Hose to only four. Jordan-Brown scored four points and corralled six more rebounds while Evonna McGill matched Jordan-Brown with four points for the quarter lead. Scott hit her third shot of the game from beyond the arc to bring her total to nine through the first three quarters.
UNC Asheville and Presbyterian traded buckets in the final quarter of the game as the Blue Hose led the quarter 16-15 but that wasn't enough for Presbyterian to overcome the Bulldogs' lead. Scott scored four points in the final 10 minutes while hitting her fourth three pointer of the game. Freshman Faith Adams also scored with a shot from three while Jordan-Brown, McGill, Jimeshia Lawson and Sonora Dengokl all added two points in final quarter.

Zip Scott led the Bulldogs with 13 points in the game while Brooke Jordan-Brown and Evonna McGill each scored eight. Scott also led with two steals while Amaryah Corpening and Jimeshia Lawson each stole the ball once.
Next, the Bulldogs will hit the road for a noon tipoff against Hampton, Tuesday, December 31, in Hampton, Va.
