Bulldogs Hit the Road to Battle with the Terriers of Wofford Sunday

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNC Asheville women's basketball will travel to Spartanburg, S.C. for a 2 p.m. matchup with the Wofford Terriers, Sunday, December 15, inside the Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium.

UNC Asheville has jumped out to an impressive 5-1 start to the season. The Bulldogs are 2-0 on the road this season, both against other Southern Conference members. UNC Asheville defeated Western Carolina inside the Ramsey Center before picking up an impressive victory over ETSU in Johnson City, Tenn.

The Bulldogs have won their last two games, both played inside Kimmel Arena, in dominating fashion. UNC Asheville secured a 44 point victory against Montreat, Dec. 2, before defeating South Carolina State by a 31 point margin, Dec. 8. The Bulldogs have scored 80+ points in each of their last two games.  

The Terriers (4-6) are coming off an 89-38 victory against Bob Jones but prior to that lost two straight to Georgia Southern and Appalachian State at home. Wofford opened the season with four straight losses, including one to Gardner-Webb, before winning three straight versus Big South Conference foes, Longwood, Winthrop and Presbyterian.

The Bulldogs hold the all-time series over the Terriers with an 8-6 record. UNC Asheville has won three of the last four matchups between the two programs including last season's matchup inside Kimmel Arena where the Bulldogs came away with a 60-46 victory.

Notably:
  • UNC Asheville has commited the fewest turnovers of any team in the nation. Of the 348 Division I teams UNC Asheville currently sits at number one in the fewest turnovers category.
  • UNC Asheville currently ranks 10th in the nation in offensive rebounds per game and 18th in rebounding margin. UNC Asheville is also 31st in total rebounds per game. The Bulldogs sit atop the Big South in all three categories. The Bulldogs have outrebounded their opponent in every game this season.
  • UNC Asheville has allowed the eighth fewest points in the nation and is currently tops in the Big South in the category. The Bulldogs are also 38th in the nation in scoring margin which is also the best in the Big South. UNC Asheville has allowed 60 points or less in five of their six games this season and have yet to allow an opponent to reach the 70 point plateau.
  • The last time the Bulldogs began a season with a 6-1 record was in 2015-16 when UNC Asheville won the Big South Regular Season Championship and the Big South Tournament Championship which led them to their second ever NCAA Tournament appearance.
  • UNC Asheville scored 80+ points in consecutive games versus Montreat and SC State. The last time the Bulldogs had consecutive 80+ point games was in the 2015-16 season when the Bulldogs defeated Charleston Southern 91-68 and High Point 85-64 in back to back games.
  • The Bulldogs have found ways to be successful going to the basket as UNC Asheville scored a season-high 50 points from within the paint in the win against SC State on Dec. 8th. It is the second consecutive game that UNC Asheville has scored 40+ points from within the paint as UNC Asheville scored 94 points from within the paint in two wins last week. The Bulldogs have scored 210 of their total 415 points from within the paint this season.
  • Nadiria Evans has now scored in double digits in four of the Bulldogs six games this season. She has scored at least eight points in every game this season.
  • UNC Asheville's 33 points in the fourth quarter versus South Carolina State are the most points the Bulldogs have scored in a single quarter this season.

The Bulldogs will next travel to Florida for the Miami Holiday Classic, Friday-Saturday, December 20-21. UNC Asheville will take on the host of the tournament, the Miami Hurricanes, in a 12 p.m. matchup on Friday before facing off with Southern at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
