Bulldogs Chase Away Cats

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – UNC Asheville women's basketball defeated the Catamounts of Western Carolina, 64-47, Monday afternoon inside the Ramsey Center in Cullowhee, N.C.

The Bulldogs held the Catamounts to only five points in the first quarter of the game while UNC Asheville put up 16 in the first quarter themselves.

The Bulldogs didn't stop there as they were firing on all cylinders in the first half as UNC Asheville led the Catamounts 39-15 at the half. Zip Scott led the Bulldogs with 10 first half points.

Amaryah Corpening hit two three-pointers in the first half and totaled eight points.

Brooke Jordan-Brown led the Bulldogs with eight rebounds at the half. The senior center also totaled six points. Jordan-Brown totaled four more points and two additional rebounds in the second half to secure her first career double-double.

Three Bulldogs scored in double figures with Corpening leading the way with a new career high of 11. Scott and Jordan-Brown each followed with 10. Scott has now scored in double figures in both of UNC Asheville's games this season.

Nadiria Evans just missed on scoring in double figures for the second straight game. The junior guard finished with nine points.

The Bulldogs scored 19 points from turnovers and outscored the Catamounts in the paint, 36-12. The Bulldogs bench scored 15 points and UNC Asheville outscored Western Carolina, 12-5, on second chance opportunities.

Notably
  • The Bulldogs have begun the 2019-20 season with a 2-0 record. It is the first time UNC Asheville has begun a season 2-0 since going 3-0 to start the 2005-06 season.
  • Monday's victory was the first Bulldog victory inside the Ramsey Center since the 2015-16 season.
  • Brooke Jordan-Brown secured her first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds in the win against Western Carolina.
  • Amaryah Corpening scored a new career-high of 11 points in the win against Western Carolina. The junior's previous high was nine scored at Winthrop on 1/20/18.
  • The Bulldogs largest lead of the day was 36 at the three minute mark in the third quarter.
  • The Bulldogs scored 36 points in the paint and allowed only 12 points in the paint.

The Bulldogs will face another Southern Conference member, Saturday, November 23, when they travel to Johnson City, Tenn. for a 7 p.m. matchup with ETSU.
