ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville women's tennis opened its 2019 spring season with a 5-2 win over Lenoir-Rhyne at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown on Friday, Jan. 18, 2019.
"It was a great first match of the season," UNC Asheville women's tennis head coach Lise Gregory said. "It's the first match Kylee Shipley and Taylor Love have played since last September because they were both out with injuries this past fall. I was pleased that they, one, were able to play singles and doubles, and two, that they were both able to pull through with wins. We are starting to get healthy, which is good because I believe we're a good team with a lot of depth, but we have to have everyone on the court and moving in the right direction."
UNC Asheville started the match the right way by sweeping doubles.
The Bulldogs picked up wins at No. 1, No. 2, No. 4 and No. 5 singles in the season-opening victory over the Bears.
UNC Asheville women's tennis continues its opening weekend next by welcoming Davidson to the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 20.
