UNC Asheville Women’s Tennis Opens 2019 Season With Two Home Matches This Weekend

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville women's tennis will officially open their 2019 season by hosting Lenoir-Rhyne at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 18.
Two days later the Bulldogs welcome Davidson at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 20. Both matches will be played indoors at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown.
The two matches are part of a five-match season-opening stretch for UNC Asheville women's tennis. UNC Asheville will also host North Greenville (1 p.m. on Jan. 29), Mars Hill (1 p.m. on Feb. 1) and Mountain Rival Western Carolina (3 p.m. on Feb. 2) as part of the season-opening homestand at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown.
UNC Asheville women's tennis enters the upcoming season having lost just one student-athlete from last year's team. The Bulldogs have also added one player to the 2019 spring roster in Lize Alet Morkel.
UNC Asheville women's tennis was tabbed sixth in the 2019 Big South Women's Tennis Preseason Poll.
The Bulldogs were impressive at home last season with nine wins.
The 2017-18 UNC Asheville women's tennis team finished the athletic year with a 3.382 grade-point average as a team to be named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team.
Four Bulldogs were tabbed ITA Scholar-Athletes for the 2017-18 season in Madeline Finley, Anastasia Horvat, Christin Louw and Emily Sidor.
Kylee Shipley and Hannah Francisco for the second straight season earned All-Big South honors last season in doubles, while Shipley garnered singles all-conference honors for the second year in a row as well. Francisco is now a three-time all-conference selection.
Sidor was chosen to the Big South Women's Tennis All-Academic Team.
