Women’s Tennis Posts Strong First Day at USCU Spartan Women’s Challenge

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – It was a great first day for the UNC Asheville women's tennis team at the USCU Spartan Women's Challenge at the USC Upstate Tennis Complex.

In doubles, the duo of Kylee Shipley and Taylor Love advanced to the semifinals of the event with two wins on Friday. The first win for the duo came against Limestone's Laura Aholu and Camille Haus in a 6-3 win. They followed that up with a 6-2 win in the next round over Noelia Acuna and Maria Jardim.

Shipley and Love will face Gardner-Webb's Miljana Ristic and Mayumi Saguchi in the semifinals at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

UNC Asheville's Madeline Finley and Anastasia Horvat secured a 6-2 win over Limestone's Ruby Kubac and Felicitas Picinini in the first round of doubles.

The Bulldog duo of Christin Louw and Emily Sidor are in the doubles consolation semifinals after a 6-3 win over Limestone's Alexandra Dolfi and Alison Walsh. The consolation semifinal is set for 9 a.m. on Saturday.

In the "black" singles portion of the event, Sidor secured a 2-6,6-4,10-5 win over Aholu. Louw earned a 2-6,6-2,10-2 win over USC Upstate's Gabriela Cevallos.

All of the Bulldogs in action at the event will continue singles play on Saturday.
