How It Happened
UNC Asheville started the game quickly, as it took four shots in the first 16 minutes of action. Of those shots, a pair were on frame, but The Citadel blocked both attempts.
Seven minutes later the Bulldogs found the back of the net to take the early 1-0 lead. After generating a turnover, sophomore Skyler Chillson worked up the right side. The Mooresville, N.C. native worked into the penalty box and connected with a shot. The ball ended up in the right side of the net to give Asheville the early lead.
The Citadel quickly responded though, as it knotted the game in the 26th minute. After UNC Asheville conceded a corner kick, The Citadel lobbed a cross into the box, and Mel Mikoy headed the ball to tie the game at 1-1.
Twelve minutes later the game was delayed due to lightning.
After almost a two-hour delay, the Bulldogs regained the lead in the 44th minute, as Oyos netted her first career goal. Kyra Kandel worked up the left side of the field, and the senior defender connected with a cross in the 18-yard box. Duenas ripped a shot, but it was deflected off The Citadel goalkeeper. Oyos corralled the rebound and lofted into the net to gain the 2-1 lead.

After tying the game at 2-2, both teams were battling at midfield. UNC Asheville had a solid chance to go ahead in the 71st minute, as Oyos connected with a header. However, the freshman's attempt went just wide of the net.
Seven minutes later, the momentum swung into Asheville's favor, as sophomore Duenas netted her first career goal. Maya Gutman connected with a right-footed cross into the box, and Duenas, who was on the left post, scored the go-ahead goal off a header.
Now up 3-2, UNC Asheville played defense for the final 12 minutes. The Citadel had several chances to score, but the UNC Asheville defense stayed strong and fended off the attack to seal the one-goal win.
