Track And Field Opens Competition at Big South Outdoor Championships on Wednesday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – To begin postseason competition, the UNC Asheville men's and women's track and field teams travel to High Point, N.C. to compete in the three-day Big South Conference Outdoor Championships beginning on Wednesday, May 9.
Last Time Out
In the regular-season finale, two school records (men's 4 x 100m and men's 400m) fell at the Appalachian State Last Chance Meet.
Consisting of Kimani Anderson, Hunter Koike, Tyree McFalling and Victor Mathuthu, the foursome broke the school record in the men's 4 x 100m. The four Bulldogs clocked a 42.35, which was 0.32 seconds faster than the previous program record.
For the third straight week, the school record in the men's 400m was broken. In Boone, N.C., McFalling broke the record again with a 49.06 time. The previous mark (49.28) was held by Koike, which the senior set at the Duke Invitational earlier this season.
In the women's long jump, Nadiria Evans and Asia Washington finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Evans made a leap of 5.40m, while Washington posted a 5.38m jump.
Victor Mathuthu placed second in the men's triple jump. He posted a 14.40m jump, which was only 0.19m from matching his career best.
In the women's 4 x 100m relay, Desire Brown, Jasmine Cox, Washington and Jailah Grimes recorded a third-place finish with a 48.43 time.
Heather Grober was the lone winner for Asheville, as the freshman claimed first-place honors in the women's 400m hurdles. She clocked a 1:03.15 time, which was over three and a half seconds faster than the runner-up.
About The Meet
The Big South Conference Outdoor Championship is a three-day meet and begins on Wednesday. High Point is hosting the championship meet at Vert Stadium.
The first event of the three-day meet is the women's discuss at 10 a.m. The first running event on Wednesday is the men's 400m hurdles prelims.
The final day of the meet is Friday, and the first event commences at noon with the men's and women's high jump. The final event of the championship meet is the men's and women's 4 x 400m relay.
