Bulldogs Fall to Gardner-Webb

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's tennis team narrowly dropped its home league match to Gardner-Webb, 4-3, on Thursday, April 5, at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown.
UNC Asheville (7-10, 2-4 Big South Conference) opened the match by taking the doubles point over Gardner-Webb (9-14, 2-5 Big South Conference).
The Bulldogs took wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to collect the doubles point. At No. 2 doubles, Edward Colclough and Oli Nolan bested Gardner-Webb's Breno Plentz and Michael Perry, 6-4. The duo has now won five straight doubles matches.
James Massie and Finlay Ray McFadyen earned a 6-0 shutout win over Ross Gilbert and Adam Schmidt at No. 3 doubles.
Gardner-Webb would collect wins at four of the six singles flight to earn the conference victory over the Bulldogs.
Nationally 76th-ranked Henry Patten extended his winning streak to six in singles with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Maximillian Scholl of Gardner-Webb at No. 1 singles.
Colclough garnered a 6-4, 7-6 win over Schmidt at No. 4 singles. Colclough is in the midst of a three-match winning streak.
UNC Asheville men's tennis will next close out its regular-season home matches with a 10 a.m. match against Campbell on Sunday, April 8. The match is part of a doubleheader at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown with the women's tennis team hosting Campbell at 1 p.m. The women's tennis match will also serve as Senior Day for Amalie Davidsen.
