UNC Asheville Breaks Program Record; Hinson and Deery Ink Career-Best Rounds at the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate

FINAL RESULTS

MORGANTON, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's golf team broke a school record on Monday at the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate, as it shot a program-best 11-over 299 round. Freshman Taylor Hinson and sophomore Adelyn Deery each posted a 1-under 71, which were both career-best rounds to conclude the two-day tournament at the Mimosa Hills Golf Course.

Final Round Highlights

Hinson and Deery were outstanding for the Bulldogs on the final day, as each posted a 1-under 71. The 18-round score for the duo marked career lows. Deery's previous career-low score was a 2-over 74, so she made a three-shot improvement to her career-best mark. Hinson's previous-best round was an even-par 72, which she has carded three times in her career. The 1-under rounds by Hinson and Deery also marked the first time in program history a Bulldog has shot a sub-par round.

Overall, Hinson had the highest finish for Asheville, as she placed tied for 4th in the 88-person field. The top-5 finish was the best placement since her first collegiate outing at the NKU Fall Classic, where she placed third. With her 1-under 71 score on Monday, Hinson finished the two-round outing with a 1-over 145 (74-71).

Becca Black had the second-highest individual finish for UNC Asheville. The sophomore finished tied for 15th with six other individuals. She finished the outing with a 6-over 160, after posting a 4-over 76 on Monday. The 15th place finish matched her previous best of the season.

Deery rounded out the top-3 placements for the Bulldogs, as the sophomore finished tied for 21st. In the two-day tournament, Deery carded a 7-over 151, which tied her with one other individual.

As a team, UNC Asheville improved two spots from yesterday's opening round, as it placed seventh. Overall, the Bulldogs carded a 34-over 610, which was highlighted by an 11-over 299 round on Monday. The 299 round marked the first time in program history the Bulldogs have shot below 300. The previous-best mark was in the season-opening tournament (NKU Fall Classic), where the Bulldogs carded a 13-over 301.

Troy won the team crown, as the Trojans inked a 19-over 595 in the two-day outing, and USC Upstate finished second, as the Spartans placed three shots behind the Trojans.

Aurelia Hamm of Elon won the individual title with a three-stroke lead on Maiken Bing Paulsen of Presbyterian. Hamm shot a 4-under 140, which was highlighted by a 5-under 67 second round score.

To open postseason play for Asheville, the Bulldogs will prepare for the three-day Big South Conference Tournament, which begins on Friday,
