Track & Field Looks to Carry Momentum at Duke Invitational

04.19.2018 | Track and Field

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Following a very successful meet at the Johnson C. Smith Invitational two weeks ago, the UNC Asheville men's and women's track and field teams look to carry that momentum this weekend at the Duke Invitational, as the Bulldogs travel to the highly-competitive meet in Durham, N.C.

Last Time Out

In the most recent team meet (Johnson C. Smith University Invitational), the Bulldogs had a successful outing. In fact, five Bulldogs finished first place in their respective event.

Morgan Costelloe won the 3000m steeplechase with a 12:21.00 time, which bested her career-best time by over 27 seconds. Newly added to the roster, Nadiria Evans won the women's triple jump, as she made a leap of 11.31m. Sage Turner claimed the top spot in the men's 3000m steeplechase. He posted a 9:53.97 and out-raced the runner-up by nearly seven seconds. Victor Mathuthu finished first in the men's triple jump. He made a leap of 14.59m, which bested his previous career-best mark by 0.25m. To round out the first-place finishes for Asheville, David Hager won the men's 1500m, as he posted a 4:03.29. Quin Meyer, Thomas Little and Graham Parker rounded out the top-4 spots in the 1500m, respectively.

Evans also finished second in the women's long jump. She leapt 5.31m, which was only 0.04m away from matching the first-place finisher.

Megan Brewer also finished second, as she posted a 5:04.96 time in the women's 1500m.

Maddie Lowe capped off the second-place finishes for the Bulldogs, as she clocked a 2:20.72 in the women's 800m.

Hunter Koike, who recently recovered from an injury, competed last weekend at the Catamount Classic. In his first meet back, he broke the program record in the men's 400m. He earned a 49.44 time, which was 0.06 seconds faster than the previous program record and 0.82 seconds faster than his previous best mark.
