Bulldogs Drop Conference Opener at Charleston Southern

CHARLESTON, S.C. – UNC Asheville women's tennis dropped its conference opener at Charleston Southern, 5-2, on Sunday, March 4.
The match commenced with Charleston Southern (5-3, 2-0 Big South Conference) earning the doubles point over UNC Asheville (5-4, 0-1 Big South Conference) with wins at all three flights.
The Buccaneers snapped the four-match winning streak for Hannah Francisco and Kylee Shipley at No. 1 doubles with Sophie Cloessner and Madalina Man narrowly earning a 7-6 win over the Bulldog duo.
The loss was just the second of the season for Shipley and Francisco, who are now 7-2 on the year in doubles.
In singles, UNC Asheville garnered wins at No. 2 and No. 5 singles.
Emily Sidor extended her winning streak to six with a 7-5, 1-6, 1-0 win over Valeria Koussenkova at No. 2 singles. At No. 5 singles, Christin Louw collected a 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 win over Kimberley Koerner. The win is the second straight for Louw.
UNC Asheville will play host to two matches next week with the Bulldogs first welcoming Wofford at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 9. UNC Asheville will face off against Emmanuel at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 10.
