Bulldogs Drop Home League Match to Winthrop

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's tennis team dropped only its second home match of the season in a 7-0 Big South Conference loss to Winthrop on Sunday, March 25, at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown. 

UNC Asheville (9-6, 2-2 Big South Conference) battled in doubles, but ultimately dropped the doubles point to Winthrop (11-4, 5-0 Big South Conference).

The UNC Asheville No. 2 duo of Lauren Watson-Steele and Christin Louw narrowly lost, 7-5, to Winthrop's Alisa Soloveva and Tayla Van Eck.

In singles, UNC Asheville narrowly fell in numerous matches. Taylor Love fell 7-5, 7-5 to Winthrop's Ellie Burns in a hard-fought match at No. 6 singles. At the No. 5 spot, Amalie Davidsen fell 5-7, 6-0, 1-0 (10-5) to Aida Kelic.

UNC Asheville women's tennis will next travel to the Commonwealth of Virginia for two league matches. The Bulldogs will first take on Liberty at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 30, before battling Radford at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 31.
